Where does the water come from?
If it comes from a tank, the mains or a well shallower than 8 metres, a surface pump is enough. A surface pump physically cannot lift water from deeper than 8–9 metres.
If the well is deep
An artesian well needs a submersible pump, which sits in the water and pushes it up. The well diameter (3" or 4") must fit the pump body.
A pressure tank for steady pressure
Either way, a pressure tank cuts pump starts and keeps pressure steady in the house.
